Arts Perspective magazine invites fiction writers from across the Four Corners region—Southwest Colorado, Northwest New Mexico, Southeast Utah, and Northeast Arizona—to submit original short stories for publication. This call is open to emerging and established writers who call this remarkable region home, even if your stories travel far beyond it.
There is no required theme. Your story may unfold in a completely imagined world, in a familiar kitchen, in a dreamlike landscape, or in a moment of everyday magic. Any genre or style is welcome—literary, speculative, whimsical, suspenseful, heartfelt, surreal, or somewhere in between. What we’re seeking is strong narrative craft and a clear, compelling voice.
Submission Details
- Eligible Writers: Must live in the Four Corners region
- Genre: Short fiction only
- Length: Up to 2,500 words
- Experience: Open to all writers—no prior publication required
- Format: New, unpublished work only
- Illustration Pairing: Selected stories will be matched with a local or regional visual artist who will create an illustration to accompany the published piece
- Submission Fee: A $25 submission fee is required to support editorial review, artist pairing, and publication costs. Payment details will be provided upon submission
- Deadline: Stories due to the editor by April 1, 2026.
Editorial Process
Chosen writers will work with an Arts Perspective editor to polish and prepare stories for publication. Writers and illustrators may have the opportunity to share notes to ensure a cohesive visual–narrative presentation.
Compensation
Selected contributors will receive:
- A modest honorarium
- Publication on ArtsPerspectiveMag.com and potential inclusion in the annual print edition
- Promotion through the Eye on the Arts newsletter and Arts Perspective social channels
